There are two styles of blade head, rotary head, and the foil head. The rotary head shavers use a ‘floating’ set of heads that cover three rotating blades. The head contours to the curves of the face, draw the hair up into them and the spinning blades cut the hair.

The foil razor uses just one cutting blade, behind a foil head. It has a unique feature, the foil head vibrates, making the skin of the users face ‘ripple’ and it is supposed to cause the hair on the face to stand up straighter than other shavers. The advantages to using this razor is that the vibrations are supposed to give a better shave. It has a self cleaning base and it holds a charge well. However, it is expensive, averaging around $200. The cleaning system is rather noisy and the refill cartridges have to be changed monthly, at around $6 a shot.

The Philips Norelco Arcitec 1050 is the best electric shaver from Norelco. It features a pivoting rotary head, and its sleek design is comfortable to use. The pivoting heads cover the shape and changes of the face really well. The pivoting head can be removed and run under water to clean. While it is the basic model of the Arcitec series, the only real difference is that this model doesn’t have all the added features, and performs just as well. It’s pivoting heads provide a more comfortable shave, can be removed and cleaned, and it looks cool over all. It is expensive with a list price of $180. The trimmer doesn’t work very well and it is a little noisier than most models.

The Panasonic Vortex HydraClean ES8109S is the best electric shaver from Panasonic. It is different from most razors, and can be used wet or dry, and shaving cream or lotion doesn’t effect it. I has a cleaning and charging base, and has a five minute quick charge feature. The foil head is on a pivoting base, and can be adjusted depending on the consumer’s needs. It’s wet/dry option is a plus, and it is comfortable to hold and easy to clean. It is a noisy unit, and it is reported that the cleaning cycle is not only to long and loud, but the special cleaning cartridges have to be replaced monthly. This razor is also expensive with a list price of $180 (but you can Get It At Amazon for $95).

It is often hard to decide which model is right for you. While many top of the line brand name models have a lot of bells and whistles, can clean themselves, be used wet or dry, they may not always be right for you. If you are just an average guy then you probably don’t want to (or need to) spend $200 for an electric razor. I have a Braun Series 3 340 that gives me a great shave and is about $65.
